Translation Department Launches a Series of Activities at the College of Languages

Today, May 13, 2025, with the attendance of the university president, the vice president, several members of the university council, the dean of College of Languages, assistant deans, department heads, lecturers, students, and a wide public audience, Translation Department in collaboration with the Kurdistan Students Association,organized a series of diverse academic and artistic activities.

The program began with the opening of an exhibition featuring a collection of posters dedicated to the history of translation and notable newspapers, writers, and figures who played a role in Kurdish translation across different periods. The exhibition served both as a tribute to these individuals and as inspiration for current and future translators and writers. It was prepared by first-year translation students under the supervision of Mr. Papula Star.

Following the exhibition, a variety of linguistic and artistic competitions and performances were held. In Dr. Ezaddin Mustafa Rasul Hall, a welcoming speech was delivered, followed by a formal acknowledgment of those who have made lasting contributions to the department throughout its history.

The event continued with a series of academic panels and seminars presented by instructors, alumni, and students from Translation Department. Additionally, a community initiative titled “The University is Our Home” was introduced—a volunteer-based project aimed at fostering community service, academic production, and the nurturing of a dedicated academic staff committed to the university and country.

The day concluded with musical performances, singing, and a cultural food exhibition prepared and presented by the students.

It is worth noting that this event was organized under the supervision of a special committee composed of Translation Department instructors: Mr. Pepola Satar, Ms. Fatma Jalal, Ms. Srood Taha, and Ms. Raz Faridun.
Following the activities, and with the aim of promoting environmental awareness, a group of volunteer students from all departments of our college participated in a campus clean-up initiative, which included tidying their classrooms and corridors and the surrounding area.

On January 25, 2025, the College of Languages at Sulaimani University, through the Department of English, organized an environmental initiative for first-year students as part of the “University Work Environment” course and Volunteer Work and Environmental Cleaning Week.
The students participated willingly and enthusiastically. Over the course of their four years of study, they will develop a sense of belonging and respect for their environment.

On January 14, 2025, a special environmental activity took place under the supervision of Dr. Farhad Towfiq and Ms. Papula Star. The event was attended by the Dean of the College, the Assistant Dean, the Head of the Translation Department, and first-year students from the Translation Department. The group placed several saplings along the department corridor to beautify and decorate the space. The goal of this initiative is for students to write their name s on the trees and care for them until they graduate.

بەشداربوانی چالاکییەکە پێکهاتبوون لە مامۆستایان، فەرمانبەران و خوێندکاران. مەبەست لەم چالاکییەش بەرزکردنەوەی هۆشیاریی تاک و هەوڵدان بوو بۆ بەفیڕۆنەدانی کاڵاکانیان و دووبارە بەکارهێنانەوەی کەرەستەکان و بە ئابووریکردنیان.

On November 18, 2024, College of Languages at University of Sulaimani organized a clothing exchange event. This global initiative, held annually around the world, was hosted for the first time by the Environmental Club of College of Languages, with plans to make it an annual tradition.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from teachers, staff, and students, all coming together to exchange gently used clothes instead of purchasing new ones.

The aim of the event was fostering sustainability and raising awareness about the importance of reusing and recycling clothing. The initiative not only helped reduce waste but also encouraged a sense of community by allowing individuals to refresh their wardrobes in an Eco-friendly way.

On October 24, 2024, a group of dedicated students from the English Department at the College of Language, supported by students from other departments and some faculty, took part in a community service project. They enthusiastically volunteered to clean up the area, collecting and disposing of litter. This activity not only helped keep the campus clean but also promoted responsibility, teamwork, and environmental awareness among students and staff.

ڕۆژی ٢ی تشرینی دووەمی ٢٠٢٤، بە بەشداری تیمێكی خۆبەخش، كەمپینی (سولی بەبێ پلاستیك) لە زانكۆی سلێمانییەوە دەستیپێكرد و بڕیارە ماوەی چوار ڕۆژ لە شاری سلێمانیدا بەردەوام بێت.
كەمپینەكە بە پاڵپشتی بەڕێز (قوباد تاڵەبانی) جێگری سەرۆكی حكومەتی هەرێمی كوردستان‌ و بە سپۆنسەری گروپی كۆمپانیاكانی ئایكیو و كارگەی لاڤارج و ماڵی داهێنانی سولی، لەلایەن تیمێكی سولی ریسایكلینەوە جێبەجێدەكرێت.

 College of Languages Participates in “Suli Without Plastic” Campaign

On November 2, 2024, College of Languages at Sulaimani University proudly took part in the first day of the “Suli Without Plastic” campaign, an initiative aimed at reducing plastic waste throughout the city of Sulaimaniyah. The campaign is supported by Mr. Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and sponsored by IQ Group Companies, Lafarge Factory, and Suli Innovation House. Spearheaded by a dedicated Suli recycling team, the campaign focuses on collecting plastic waste from public areas across the city.

Dr. Soma Nawzad, a lecturer at the College of Languages, emphasized the importance of the college’s involvement, stating, “We thought it was better to start the first day of the campaign with the participation and cooperation of the College of Languages at Sulaimani University. For this purpose, our students registered and we invited campaign volunteers to join us on campus.”

Azhir Fariq, a student from the College of Languages, shared his enthusiasm: “As a student, I felt it was important to join the ‘Suli Without Plastic’ campaign, which holds significant environmental benefits for our city. We began by focusing on our immediate surroundings and the place that has given us so much—Sulaimani University.”

Through active participation in such initiatives, the College of Languages demonstrates its commitment to promoting environmental awareness and contributing to a more sustainable future for Sulaimaniyah.

On May 22, 2024, the Department of Translation at the College of Language organized a vibrant and multifaceted event for its students at the Prof. Dr. Ezzedine Mustafa Rasoul Hall. The event was graced by the presence of Professor Dr. Kosar Mohammed Ali, President of the University of Sulaymaniyah, along with the university’s Vice President, several of his assistants, members of the university council, numerous faculty members, students, and esteemed guests from outside the university.

The event featured a blend of cultural and academic activities. It began with screening of short artistic and psychological documentaries, which were conceptualized, filmed, and translated by the fourth-year students as part of their “Audiovisual Translation” course. This was followed by various activities showcasing art, music, and poetry recitations performed by students across different grades.

An innovative project, the online Hawri dictionary, was introduced by fourth-year students, highlighting the department’s commitment to technological advancements in language studies. The event continued with several seminars on language changes in Kurdish and English, presented by the students.

Outside the hall, guests were introduced to various language-related crafts and projects by the students. First-year students displayed their posters, and a selection of Kurdish and Western dishes were served, enhancing the cultural experience. The event concluded with a lively and enjoyable social gathering, leaving guests with a sense of youthful enthusiasm and cultural enrichment.

English Department’s students outreach to Malli Kchan/ Girls’ Home

A dedicated group of students from the English Department of College of Language, led by Dr. Soma Nawzad, embarked on a meaningful journey on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Their mission was to visit Malli Kchan and extend a token of support and comfort through their provision of essential supplies.

Malli Kchan is a safe haven for orphans aged 5 to 12. During their visit, the students connected with the children, engaging in warm conversations about their daily lives. The English Department team generously presented a range of essential supplies including new clothes, cleaning materials, school supplies, and nourishing food.

As the visit concluded, both the children and the orphanage supervisors expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the English Department students’ presence, thanking them for the meaningful and joyous interaction. This event truly exemplifies the spirit of compassion and community service within our college.

کۆمەڵێک لە خوێندکارانی بەشی زمانی ئینگلیزی، بە سەرپەرشتی د.سۆما نەوزاد، ڕۆژی یەکشەممە ڕێکەوتی ١٠/٣/٢٠٢٤، بە مەبەستی پێشکەشکردنی کۆمەڵێک پێداویستی، سەردانی (ماڵی کچان)یان کرد.

ماڵی کچان خانەیەکی ئارامە و منداڵانی بێسەرپەرشتی تەمەن ٥ بۆ ١٢ ساڵ داڵدە دەدات. لە سەردانەکەدا، خوێندکارانی ئامادەبوو چاویان بە منداڵەکان کەوت و پاش هەواڵپرسین و گفتوگۆکردن، چەندین پێداویستیی جۆراوجۆریان پێشکەشی منداڵەکان کرد. پێداویستییەکان پێکهاتبوون لە: جلو بەرگی نوێ، ماددەی پاککەرەوە، پێداویستیی قوتابخانە و خواردەمەنی.
