College of Languages at the University of Sulaimani stands out as one of the institution's distinguished and long-standing academic faculties. Here, language studies encompass not only the scientific aspects of language but also impart valuable abilities, skills, and experiences to students. Language, beyond its scientific dimension, is intricately connected to culture and intellectual thought. Language studies empower students to engage with others, foster critical thinking, explore various cultural dimensions, and gain insights into global perspectives.
Acquiring proficiency in the diverse facets of language, literature, and translation, which form the foundation of this college, serves as a potent catalyst for enhancing students' skills and capabilities in understanding and appreciating the rich cultural diversity of various societies. This knowledge can be leveraged to contribute to the advancement of modern society. Furthermore, the study of foreign languages plays a vital role in educating students, opening doors to employment opportunities in fields such as translation, international relations, teaching, public policy, and commerce. Graduates can pursue careers in language review, public speaking, and presentation, establishing themselves as active and reputable contributors to the development of the Kurdish community.
Additionally, the study of local and global literature fosters critical thinking among students, endowing them with a profound cultural awareness that equips them with the ability to think, communicate, address challenges, and adapt effectively. For these compelling reasons, the College of Languages consistently garners the enthusiasm of the majority of students, and they are warmly welcomed with pride.
About Us

College of Languages trains academics in the fields of linguistics, translation, and various fields of literature.

Currently, the College of Languages has (40) MA students and (58) PhD students at different phases of their studies. Up to now, (3) one-year higher diplomas, (328) master's degrees, and (139) doctorates have been awarded in the College of Languages.

On April 23, 2024, Sulaimani University/ College of Language continued its commitment to student development with an engaging activity for the first year-students of the Arabic Department. Hosted in the Seminar Hall, under the theme ‘Focusing on personal skill and learning how to utilize them’ connected to the lecture of ‘professional skills.’ Renowned guest speaker Bakhtiar Hussein Rashid, a professor from the College of Arts’ Music Department shared insights to empower students and increase their proficiency in utilizing personal skills. The overarching goal of the activity was to promote awareness among students about the importance of personal skills and their application in various aspects of life.

In continuation of Sulaimani University/ College of Language’s ongoing activities, a literary and intellectual panel titled ‘Cultural Identity’ was conducted on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 12:30 in the Dr. Ezadin Mustafa Rasul Hall. The event was organized by the English Department faculty, in collaboration with teachers from Salahaddin and Charmo Universities, featured esteemed speakers including:

– Zhino Jabar Mohammed, assistant lecturer

– Dr. Zanyar Kareem Abdul

– Dr. Bukhari Abdullah Rasoul

– Yadgar Fayeq Saeed, assistant lecturer

– Shango Mohammed Hoshmand, assistant lecturer

چوار خوێندکاری زانکۆی سلێمانی (دایک)، وەک باڵیۆزی زانست، کە لەنێویاندا خوێندکاری بەشی زمانی ئینگلیزی (ئیمان ئومێد نامیق) لە قۆناغی دووەم، وەک نوێنەری کۆلێژی زمان، بەشداری لە پڕۆگرامی دیداری باڵیۆزانی زانستدا کرد،  لەژێر دروشمی (گەنجان، ئاوات و ئاڵنگاری). دیدارەکە لە بەرواری ٧ ـ ١٠ی ئازاری ٢٠٢٤ لە شاری ئیزمیری وڵاتی تورکیا، بە بەشداری 150 خوێندکار و گەنج لە 8 وڵات و 41 شاری جیاواز و زیاتر لە 20 کەسایەتیی سیاسی و حکومی و ڕێکخراوەیی هەردوو وڵاتی کوردستان و تورکیا بەڕێوە چوو.
لە دیدارەکەدا چەندین پانێڵ و وۆرکشۆپی پەیوەندیدار بە لایەنی گەنجانەوە پێشکەشکران:

*لە ناوخۆییبوونەوە بۆ بە نێودەوڵەتیبوون

لە کۆتاییدا وەک خوێندکاری زانکۆی سلێمانی بەشداربووین لە پانێڵی هەڵسەنگاندنی دیدارەکە و لەلایەن ڕێکخەرانی دیدارەکەوە بڕوانامەی بەشداریکردن و نێودەوڵەتیمان پێ بەخشرا.

Four outstanding students from the University of Sulaymaniyah, including Eman Umed Namiq from our College of Language’s English Department, have proudly represented us as Science Ambassadors in the prestigious Science Ambassadors Meeting, rallying under the inspiring theme of “Youth, Aspirations, and Challenges”. This meeting was held from March 7th to 10th, 2024, in Izmir, Turkey. The event brought together 150 students and youth from 8 countries and 41 different cities, along with over 20 influential figures from political, governmental and organizational spheres of both Kurdistan and Turkey. Throughout the meeting, a series of panels and workshops delved into youth-related topics, such as:

– Youth, experience and future

– From local to global

– Women’s strength in leadership

– Independent economy, innovation and initiative

– Kurds and Turks / A brief summary of their history over a millennium

– Internationalization of organizational work

– Preparing for the labor market

– Skills development

– Balance of wok, study, and social life
