In the honored presence of Professor Dr. Kosar Mohamed, the president of University of Sulaimani, along with Professor Dr. Kawa Jamal, the vice president for administrative and financial affairs, and Professor Dr. Shakhawan Jalal Haji Farj, the dean of the College of languages, alongside the inaugural batch of graduates from the Arabic Department of the College of Language, today, March 10, 2024, an honors ceremony was organized for the first batch of graduates of the Department of Arabic under the title (ملتقی خریجی قسم اللغە العربیە/ Alumni Forum for the Arabic Language Department). The event embraced a diverse array of components. Commencing with a welcoming speech and presenting two insightful seminars, the students conveyed their appreciation by presenting Assitant Prof. Dr. Kurdia Ahmed Hassan, the head of Arabic Department, with Flowers as a heartfelt token. Subsequently, two enlightening documentaries were showcased, that were directed by Dr. Nawroz Shawkat Mohammad, a lecturer at the Arabic department. The expressions of gratitude were extended to our graduating students, culminating in the conclusion of the ceremony.

On Thursday, March 6, 2024, the Translation Department of our college, together with the Kurdistan Center for Arts and Culture and Kashkul Center, in the distinguished presence of the Dean of the College of Language, and esteemed faculty members and students, the translated book The Food of the Mosque Servant was read and introduced.

At the commencement of this momentous occasion, Professor Trifa Omar, the head of the translation department, delivered a speech, expressing gratitude and extending heartfelt thanks to the Dean of the College of Language, professor Shakhawan Jalal Haji Faraj for their unwavering support of such events, and underscored a commitment to supporting endeavors dedicated to the betterment of the Kurdish society. Subsequently, it was emphasized that the collaborative effort between the translation department, the Kurdistan Center and the Kashkul Center, in respects of introducing the Kurdish worldview and philosophy to the world, by reading and presenting Hazhar’s book (The Food of the Mosque Servant), translated into English by Ms. Shene Mohammed, was appreciated and regarded as a valuable asset for the nation. Later on, Shene Mohammed, the book’s translator and the director of the Translation Department of the Kurdistan Center for Arts and Culture, Dr. Alana Marie Levinson-LaBrosse, the director and founder of Kashkul Center for Arts and Culture at the American University of Iraq-Sulaimani, and Sarwar Taha, the director of Special Projects at Kashkul, introduced the book to the audience in both Kurdish and English language. And then, the floor was opened for discussion with the audience. The event wrapped up with accolades and critiques from both the presenters and the audience regarding the translation of the book.

On Monday, January 8, 2024, at the College of Languages, specifically in Professor Dr. Ezaddin Mustafa Rasul Hall, an event titled “Orientation for First-Stage Students at the College of Languages” was conducted. This activity was organized by the student’s representative of the College of Languages and carried out under the supervision of the college deanery.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence in remembrance of the souls of the College of Languages’ students. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Shakhawan Jalal Haji Faraj, the Dean of the College of Languages, delivered a speech. In addition to extending congratulations for the new academic year and expressing joy for the first-grade students, he emphasized important instructions and points for the students to observe, contributing to the university and college’s development. With this objective in mind, he wished success to all students. Following that, the students’ general representative delivered a speech.

As part of the appreciation gestures during the event, an accolade was awarded to the top three students from both the morning and evening departments at the College of Languages. Additionally, Dr. Jutiar Omer Saleh, a Lecturer at the English department and the leader of the college’s Gardens Greening Committee, conducted a seminar on environmentalism and animal welfare. The seminar incorporated digital visuals and comprehensive guidelines for environmental protection, aiming to promote a healthy university environment. As a culmination of the seminar’s objectives, a tree-planting initiative was orchestrated, resulting in the planting of 100 trees in the diverse and visually enchanting gardens surrounding the college. With the completion of these activities, the event concluded.

The event was organized under the supervision of Dr. Sara Kamal and the dedicated efforts of numerous volunteers at the department.

The event, designed for first-stage students of the academic year, featured a series of informative talks delivered by both teachers and students from the English-Language Department. The ceremony commenced with a remarkable speech by former student Taha Jalil, who graduated in 2014, sharing insights on “how to avoid distractions and work towards your goal.” Subsequently, Dr. Raman Qalander, a teacher at the department, expanded students’ horizons with information on various job opportunities.

The third segment involved first-year students stepping onto the stage to introduce themselves, receiving tokens of appreciation from head of the department, Dr. Rebeen Kareem for their courage. Following this, a representative of the department outlined plans for the upcoming academic year.

In the concluding part of the ceremony, four dedicated students delivered inspiring speeches. Shayan Shamal discussed “what you learn from the English-Language Department,” Sanaria Tahsin focused on “motivation and discipline,” Sazgar Ali introduced the concept of “Leadership,” and Avan Othman addressed “dealing with stress and anxiety.”

Dr. Sara wrapped up the ceremony with a heartfelt appreciation for the volunteers, acknowledging their vital role in the event’s success, and encouraged everyone to partake in more meaningful activities in the future.
